Diary of a middle aged redundant man (part 240113, especially for the hard eyed advocates of the “pull yourself up by your bootstraps and stop whingeing” school of economic Calvinism. Those fine, self-made men and women, who make the journey from “self-help” to, er, “self-love” look very short indeed).

Dear Diary,
Epiphany
is not
always sudden
sometimes
the truth
like
an old
dropping penny
falls
slowly
My beloved parents
lived
honourable
modest
lives
and
believed.
Now
they
are
silent
in
the ashes
of
their
faith
all
articles
burned
all
pillars
broken
their muteness
worse
than any
outpouring
Yesterday
I listened
to a
well dressed
well fed
stockbroker
advising
the government
about
lowering
unemployment assistance
to
hungry
jobless
people
the grim irony
of it
left me
slack jawed
with astonishment
In other news
the nice man
on the telly
says
a famous orchestra
is working hard
to bring back disco……….
the
reckless
bastards,
Yours Sincerely etc,
